The history

The hotel was established at the end of the XIX Century. It was a warm alpine chalet which hosted travelers heading on horseback to the cold and difficult pass of Sestriere. Since Sestriere was an uninhabitated area the next stopover would have been Pragelato.

In 1930 grandpa Giacomo – coming back from a job experience in France, where he worked as waiter – decided to invest some money bringing into the house drinking water and heating and started to run the new "Albergo del Centro".

During the war period the hotel became the headquarter of the German troops and the family was forced to live in the cellar. But grandma Clementina was a strong and proud woman so she didn’t despair and she started the hotel business again. In the meanwhile the sons Aldo and Eligio travelled and worked abroad and they enriched their professional background.

In 1963 Eligio got married with Mariuccia and decided to manage the family business, starting from building new rooms. These where the years of the Italian economic boom. The FIAT firm was employing many workers in all Piemont. People could live better and spend holidays in the mountains, both in summer and winter. Many tourists were coming in Champlas, nice village close to the thriving ski resort of Sestriere. It was a lively period in which the guests used to come into the hotel many times and they were considered like friends to spend time with. The hotel was a big family and thanks to the phone people from the cities could stay in touch with the "life of the mountains".

Looking forward to hosting the Alpine Ski World Championship in 1997, the hotel was improved in 1995. All the rooms at the 2nd and 3rd floor got private bathrooms and façade and roof were completely renewed.

For the Winter Olympic Games of Torino 2006 mum Mariuccia decided to refurnish the rooms and dad Eligio took care of the cuisine aiming to have always fresh and natural dishes.

Today in the "Albergo del Centro" you are hosted by us: Maurizio, Antonella, Nicolò, Mattia.
